Jewelry
findings are widely used in jewelry making, which is no doubt. But you may have
no such suitable jewelry findings or just lack some of them in hand, what will
you do? The answer is very simple –use your jewelry tools and jewelry wires to
create them.
Basic
wire jewelry tools include a pair of cutters, round nose pliers, wire wrapping
pliers. Round nose pliers come in different sizes. They have tips that are
round. They are used for beading wire, head pins and eye pins into loops. This
type jewelry plier are also usually used for attaching wires to earring
findings, necklace or bracelet clasps, and making attractive loops for wire
wrapping projects.
Jewelry Pliers |
You
must use wire cutters to cut the jewelry wires but not your scissors. Any
thickness of wire using in jewelry making will ruin your scissors. Well, memory
wire, such as that used for bracelets and choker necklaces, may damage regular
wire cutters. So if you plan to use that extensively, you should buy wire
cutters designs for that stronger wire.
Wire
wrapping pliers are designed to create consistently perfect loops in three
different sizes—4mm, 6mm and 8mm. They are used like round nose pliers for wire
wrapping, forming simple or wrapped loops and for creating your own jump rings.
A Set of Three Pliers |
Here
is useful information about how to make your wire loops with your jewelry tools
for beginners.
1,
Using wire cutters to cut the jewelry wire at the length you need, or remove
the head from a nail head pin.
2,
Grasp the wire from one end, and bend it into a 45 degree angle.
3,
Use your round nose pliers to grasp the wire firmly at the angle, leave the
wire’s short end pointed to your left. Use your free hand to wrap the wire’s
short end over the top of the pliers so it extends straight out, pointing to
the right.
4,
Remove the pliers and reposition them so that they are seated in the curve you
just created. Use your free hand to bend the wire’s end to let is point
straight down.
5,
Use your wire cutters to cut off the extra wire. Slip a ring onto the loop now.
6,
Use your flat edge pliers to grasp firmly the circle you have created. Pull the
straight wire toward the circle, closing the gap. A perfect round loop at the
end of the wire or an eye pin is created.
Just
have a try with jewelry tools and use those jewelry findings in your jewelry
making. You will find it is very funny and time-saving. Enjoy your jewelry
making.
